Pioneer will also begin releasing Battle Athletes on 9/15/98, Fushigi Yuugi on 10/20/98, and finally the Pretty Sammy TV Series on 1/12/99. - Mark Clifton 4.) Star Wars: A letter from Garrick Hagon (Biggs Darklighter) -Contributed by Starman (starman@surfsouth.com) I recently wrote Garrick Hagon (who played Biggs Darklighter in the Anchorhead scene) a letter requesting his autograph. A cut-scene-fanatic that I am, I asked him what he thought about the Anchorhead scene, and what it was like working on it, etc. About 2 weeks later, he responded, with this letter, and an inscribed signed picture. So, without further ado, here's the letter: London, UK. 10 May, 1998 Dear Jason, Thanks for your letter. It is good to know that you have been looking for the missing scene. You're one of the few. In fact, I haven't seen it myself. It would be interesting to see the clip. In fact, the scene was so great to shoot and Mark and I always hoped, in spite of its length, that it would be kept in. You mention that you know why the scene was cut from the film. What reason have you in mind? At any rate, it was good to read your comments and I hope to get a chance to see the famous excised scene some time. I enclose a picture All best wishes, Garrick Hagon. I wrote him back (ofcourse) and I will keep you updated! 5.) Star Wars: Release The Cut Scenes Act In the Star Wars Insider #35, there was an article on the deleted Biggs scene from Star Wars, and the deleted Sandstorm scene from Return of the Jedi. The article showed shots from the scenes, and described them thoroughly. The article was great, but there was one disappointing side to it: Many readers expected the answer to the question ‘Why not release the scenes?' The article failed to give this information. It's not as obvious as the Star Wars Holiday Special, which should never be released, but the article said that the scenes were good. So, in my opinion, there's not really a reason NOT to release them. What we want is Lucasfilm Ltd. to release the cut scenes from the Star Wars trilogy, with emphasis on the deleted Biggs scene. The entire Biggs scene was shown recently at the Pasadena Comic Con by Steven Sansweet. Only a small amount of fans had the honor of attending and seeing it. So the goal of this page and adding the image to your site and writing letters to Lucasfilm is to make Lucasfilm aware that we really want to see the scenes. Of course, they wouldn't release a director's cut of Star Wars, because the Special Editions were the director's cuts. But, here are just a few suggestions for what they COULD do: ? Release on video the collection of all deleted scenes (that might exclude foreign fans). ? Make a Star Wars Insider exclusive video, with all the scenes. ? A PBS documentary (although that would exclude foreign fans, too). Please add this HTML script to your webpage: It will put an image with some of the scenes in it on your page. 6.) Places To Visit - Midgetville Submitted to me by Amy Golden conserning her trip with 2 of her friends, Melissa & Steve, to Midgetville. **Disclaimer: OMEGA and the author (Amy Golden) in no way encourages this type of treatment and is placed here only for informational purposes only.** Midgetville is this place in Salt Lake City that has a bunch of little midgets living there...it's just like a little curvey road you drive on. In case you want to go someday it's on 1300 East, right across from Westminster college. “So we pulled in this little road which looked like a driveway, but it was a real road, only small b/c it was midget size. It was tunneled by trees & plus it was midnight so it was VERY dark & scary. But Steve warned us that these little oompa-loompas are very very angry people & they HATE normal- sized humans with a PASSION! So he said to roll up our windows b/c they throw stuff. So we drove down a little ways & stopped to look at all the teeny houses & little signs & statues & stuff, then all of a sudden Steve started cussing & screaming & backed the car up. We were like “what? what?” & he pointed to this little hobbit in the willow tree (coincidence it was a WILLOW tree?? haha, i think not), anyways he was STARING at us, just staring. Then he leaped out of the tree & started running towards us yelling & waving his little stubby arms!! It was SO scary!! Man, I haven't been that scared in a long time! We drove to the park where all the little homeless midgets live too. They are some MEAN little people!!! They throw rocks & cuss at you & spit & stuff! Steve told us that last time when he came w/ his buddies, they all took this 4-runner & went all the way down the road (which eventually becomes a dead-end, so you have to flip around) & they got stuck b/c the midgets barracaded them in (& they'll do that if they catch you. They'll come out of their houses & block you in & beat your car w/ big clubs & sticks & stuff), so they started coming out of their houses & they (Steve & his friends) were just SCREAMING & finally they got unstuck & sped out of there like crazy!! Man!! Talk about scary!! It's funny b/c not alot of people know about it, except the people who live in that little neighborhood, so it's kinda like a little tourist attraction among the SLC people, they go in there & throw pizza boxes & stuff. But it's dangerous! If your car cannot flip around easily, you do NOT go in there!!!” -Amy Golden (purple-chicken@juno.com) 7.) Sailor Moon: The Dubbing Game -Translated from German by Nettack (nettack@bigfoot.de)- Hi, I've come up with a game, which we could play at the Megaconventiony. The game's called DIC which stands for Dub Idiot Contest. The task is easy. You get 89 episodes of Sailormoon and have to dub these. But there are a few rules which you mustn't break: 1. Of course you mustn't dub all 89 episodes. You have to pick about 60 of these 89 episodes and kiss the rest goodbye. The less episodes the better. 2. The dialog may not be translated 1:1, but has to be changed so much, that there won't be much left of the original plot. 3. Every episode has to be cut by at least 10 minutes. Take care, that you cut out the scenes which contain humorous, action or sad elements first. 4. NO name may stay like in the original (Hans sounds much better than Motoki AND it's German) The same goes for the songs. It's enough if you hit a few keys on you piano to get a melody and sing 1-2 lines which repeat continuosly. 6. The Intro and Extro has to be cut out, of course. 7. No episode may be longer than 10 minutes. 8. In exchange you have to fill the gap with 10 minutes of commercial breaks. Easy, ain't it? The winner (which is the person that delivers the least, shortest and the most massacred episodes) gets a great prize: The new Sailormoon CD: Killing the Moon. Note from the translator: The only SM CD's we get in Germany are Samplers with Backstreet Boys, etc.which are “presented” by Sailor Moon. The newest one is called “Dancing on the Moon” Till we meet again. Thomas Lightning (Vice President of SMOF) http://www.sailormoon.de/THL 8.) Tom should start on recoloring CRISIS #10 this weekend. He's all done with L* #1,000,000, with Keith Giffen's LSH #1,000,000 to follow. Tom knows which Legionnaires will appear on the SUPERMAN cartoon, but Mike McAvennie will be the one to make the announcement. Jeff thinks we'll see the return of Dirk Morgna before we see Inferno. Tom confirmed that Violet's official codename is “Leviathan.” Jeff knows that one Legionnaire is gay but isn't telling who it is. The character should be outed eventually. Tom said there will be a couple stories where Rokk gets into “a good scrap or two.” Jeff describes the characters in the #1,000,000 issues as the “Vertigo Legion.” Something happens to M'Onel in LSH #111. Jeff would like to do some SECRET FILES work. There will be a Legion TPB covering the first year or so of the reboot. As well, LSH ARCHIVES #9 is in the works, which should finish their ADVENTURE and ACTION appearances. It's unlikely that Sensor will become a human. Tom said that Inferno is the rebooted Beauty Blaze. There are no plans for a rebooted Echo. Jeff suggested that “maybe” Gates' experience in the anomaly has made him a little nicer. Jeff said he wasn't sure if Gates was a male. The Legion has a story in the ADVENTURE COMICS 80-Pager, but Tom isn't proud of it because of all the changes that were made to his writing. He'd rather ignore that the story even exists. There are tentative plans to straighten out Valor/M'Onel's rebooted history. An upcoming story features a villain that the creators had to get approval for. There will be a scene where Monstress interacts with Thom. It was Tom's idea for the bar scene in SCIENCE POLICE #1 to be saturated with blue light, so we'd be surprised when we later see that one of the characters really does have blue skin. Metropolis is the city in which Legion HQ is located, a block away from the Superman statue, according to Tom. They'll visit that statue soon. Mike believes that the three Legion founders, along with Chameleon, will appear on the SUPERMAN cartoon. Thunder appears in LSH #110. The spotlight on Lori is in L* #69. Tom was sure that one or two of the following would appear within the next year: Blok, Dawnstar, Timber Wolf, Tyroc, Wildfire. If a character hasn't appeared yet, it's not because the creators don't want him or her returned; it's just a matter of finding the right opportunity. - -- Alex Tam goldie@intergate.bc.ca; Nachro2 on AOL Thank You Very Much For Reading!
