The Animation International Company (AIC) is quite possibly one of the best and most recognized animation houses in Japan. Their vast library of works include such fan favorites as Bubblegum Crisis, Silent Mobius, Oh My Goddess!, Tenchi-Muyo!, and El-Hazard. And their wide range of genres give Otaku a truly unique variety of anime to choose from.
This stunning softcover presents a straight-forward and definitive look at each of the series AIC has worked on for the past 15 years. The book begins with a stunning 15th Anniversary illustration by Hiroyuki Hitzume that features an all-star ensemble of AIC characters. From there the book presents a special showcase of five character designers who have worked with AIC over the years including Kenichi Sonoda and Michitaka Kikuchi. The best part of the book is the actual series pages that contain tons of pictures from the series ranging from movie and promo posters, character pictures, and original artwork for the book. These pages feature a complete series episode guide which includes episode titles and air dates and release dates along with other essential information. There are also more in depth black and white pages that chronicle all the series AIC has worked on. There is also a ‘top secret' section with pictures and info on their hentai projects, a color section feature posters and goods, info on upcoming series, and insightful staff interviews. The book is rounded out with a company time-line, a company guide with information ranging from their web site to English releases, a top ten of favorite female characters and mecha designs, a best wishes section with staff drawings and messages, and a garage-kit list.
The book seems to be the cumulation of all the work AIC has put into their web site over the years. As with much of their recent merchandise, this book was made with Otaku in mind. Because it is set-up as an art book, but goes far beyond the pictures. All this great content is protected by a dust jacket featuring some of AIC's most recognized female characters; Ryoko, Pretty Sammy, Akari Kanzaki, Nene Romanova, and Rune Venus.
Overall the book features the most up-to-date and in depth look at AIC to date with entries on the new series like AD Police, Duel!, Sol Bianca , and the new AIC Love magazine. This book will bring back fond memories for any one who has watched anything from AIC, making it a must have for any collection.
