Animefringe Snack Review:
Pocky
By Steve Diabo (Kaneda) and Holly Kolodziejczak

Steve:

You know 'em, folks, and you love 'em. The French have cheese, the Irish have potatoes, the Chinese have rice, and us Otaku... well, we have Pocky. Unless you've been living under a rock, Pocky is something of a tradition amongst Otaku, especially amongst con-goers. What's so special about them? Well, if you haven't tried one, you're in for a surprise! For a plain ol' cookie stick with some chocolate or flavored frosting, they are strangely addictive. These little cookie sticks are so prolific that I've even seen them in the asian food section at some Wal-Marts! Of course, there are some flavors that are only sold in Japan, and there are also some special seasonal and limited-edition flavors considered extremely rare by Pocky hobbyists (yes, they do exist). So, if you haven't started your own little Pocky adventure yet, what are you waiting for?

Holly:

Ah, Pocky. Where to begin about the joys of this wonderful creamy and crunchy treat? This happy little indulgence, put out by Glico, comes straight from Japan in the cutest little box that fits right in your backpack at school or your desk at work. What is Pocky, you ask? It's a darn shame if you don't know, but for the unenlightened, let me give you a little info. Pocky are little crunchy cracker sticks that are about four inches long and almost entired covered with a creamy flavored coating. There are probably about twenty of these little sticks in every small box, with double that in the bigger boxes. Although there are many flavors, *MY* personal favorite is Strawberry Pocky. If you haven't had the chance to try this Japanese confection, you poor deprived thing you, run out and purchase some right now. Pocky is generally inexpensive, and sharing your hoard of Pocky at meeting places is a sure way to pick up a cute fangirl like myself. Okay, maybe not really. ^_~
